Brand

In the 1970s, Linda Rae Tepper and Steve M. Abrams opened the antique shop "The Ruby Slippers" in Manhattan.

Fascinated by the "ARNEL" and "F.D.R" models, flagship products of Tart Optical Co., which they handled as dead stock, they approached Tart Optical Co. to manufacture their own frames.

Their passion was so strong that "Shady Character" was born through manufacturing by Tart Optical Co.

As a result, many "Shady Character" frames are inspired by frames from Tart Optical Co.

In 2021, the brand was re-released under a new structure, with Tommy O'Gara, who has designed numerous eyewear pieces both domestically and internationally, handling brand direction, and American artist Michael Carney serving as creative director. They reimagined and revived the "Shady Character" that was popular in the 70s and 80s with their own ideas.
